Video Resolution Guide: 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 4K
Resolution describes pixel dimensions, not the entire viewing experience. Codec, bitrate, frame rate, source quality, and audio all matter too.
What the common labels mean
- 480p: usually 854×480 standard definition.
- 720p: usually 1280×720 HD.
- 1080p: usually 1920×1080 Full HD.
- 1440p: usually 2560×1440.
- 4K / 2160p: usually 3840×2160 Ultra HD.
- 8K / 4320p: usually 7680×4320, and rarely available.
Resolution is not the same as quality
A heavily compressed 4K stream can look worse than a well-encoded 1080p stream. Bitrate, codec efficiency, frame rate, HDR, and the quality of the original upload affect the result.
- Choose MP4/H.264 when broad device compatibility matters.
- Choose a newer codec only when your player supports it.
- A smaller screen often makes 720p or 1080p the practical choice.
Why high resolutions need a merge
Many streaming platforms store high-resolution video and audio separately. This saves delivery bandwidth, but a downloader must combine the selected video with compatible audio. Lynvado marks such formats and performs the merge during preparation.
